Alamosa, CO – On Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at approximately 2200 hours, the Alamosa Police Department was dispatched to 216 State Avenue for a disturbance where possible shots were fired.
Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male victim who had been shot. A female person of interest remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation at the onset. The Alamosa Police Department is working in partnership with the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office on this investigation, which is currently ongoing and in the very early stages.
The male victim has been identified and the Alamosa County Coroner will release the name of the decedent after proper notification to the next of kin. The female person of interest was later identified as Kawanna Nelson, 57 year old Alamosa resident. Kawanna was charged with 2nd Degree Homicide and transported to the Alamosa County Detention Center.
All parties involved have been contacted at this time. This was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the community.
