Alex Marques stiff arms a Badger defender.

The Limon Badgers showed why they are the odds-on favorites to capture another 1A State Championship in football as they dismantled the Monte Vista Pirates, 50 -20.  The Pirates will begin preparations for the winter sports season as the Badgers move into the semifinals next weekend.

Limon jumped out to a 21 to 0 lead in the first quarter.  Gabe Schubarth and Lohgan Bottjer both scored on the ground.  Badger quarterback Jordan Rockwell added the third score on a pass to Michael Hoffman.

Khegan Gunter put the Pirates on the board on the first play from scrimmage in the second quarter to cut the lead to 21 to 6.  Schubarth and Bottjer responded by adding another rushing touchdown before halftime.  The Badgers took a 36 to 6 lead into the break.

Lohgan Bottjer continued to torch the Pirate defense in the third quarter as he added two more rushing touchdowns.  On his second score of the quarter and fourth for the game, Bottjer put the sportsmanship rule into effect for the Badgers when they went up on the Pirates 50 to 6.

The Pirates were able to get two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the final score 50 to 20.  Both scores were rushing touchdowns scored by Khegan Gunter.  Gunter had all three touchdowns for the Pirates in the game.

Despite the stinging loss to the Limon Badgers, the Pirates still had an excellent season. They finished the season with an overall record of 9–2.  The Badgers march on to the semi-finals next weekend when they travel to Colorado Springs Christian.  It was a rough weekend for San Luis Valley high school football teams.  Monte Vista, Centauri, Sanford, and Alamosa all saw their season come to an end in the quarter finals of their respective classifications.
